Thuringian Minister for the Environment visits SWT

On Thursday, 23 November 2023, the Minister for the Environment, Energy and Nature Conservation of Thuringia, Mr Bernhard Stengele (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen), visited Stahlwerk Thüringen.

Minister Stengele was accompanied by his staff member, Mr Tim Härdrich, Renewable Energies Officer, and Prof Dr Dieter Sell, Managing Director of the Thuringian Energy and GreenTech Agency (ThEGA).

After a tour of the company, the following topics were discussed:

  • regional generation of renewable energies at economically justifiable costs for use at Stahlwerk Thüringen,

  • possibilities of using the waste heat generated at Stahlwerk Thüringen,

  • framework conditions of the approval regulations for the decarbonisation of the production site and

  • challenges regarding the utilisation of funding opportunities for decarbonisation projects due to the current financial shortfall at federal level.
